Nigeria’s largest carrier, Air Peace, has rolled out a fresh employment drive with the creation of 1,000 graduate trainee jobs under its 2025/2026 Graduate Trainee Programme.
The initiative, according to the airline, is a direct response to the Federal Government’s suspension of the 4 per cent Free on Board (FOB) levy on imported goods — a policy reversal that has been widely hailed by businesses across sectors.
The levy, introduced earlier in the year, had sparked uproar among manufacturers, importers, and clearing agents who argued it would worsen inflation, discourage investment, and stifle trade.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, admitted the measure risked undermining economic stability and Nigeria’s competitiveness. He explained that government had bowed to the weight of concerns raised by critical stakeholders, hence the suspension.
Speaking on the airline’s new hiring plan, Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, described the suspension as a “lifeline” for the aviation industry.
“This suspension removes a heavy burden that could have crippled airlines and triggered massive job losses,” Onyema said in a statement on Wednesday. “In turn, Air Peace is reciprocating this kind gesture by creating 1,000 fresh graduate jobs for young Nigerians.”
Onyema commended President Bola Tinubu and Mr Edun for what he called responsive leadership, adding that the move underscores how government-private sector synergy can spark real economic change.
“If further supportive measures like this come from the Federal Government, I can assure you that thousands more jobs will be created in the aviation sector. This is how partnerships can transform a nation,” he said.
He explained that the Graduate Trainee Programme is designed to equip young Nigerians with technical skills, mentorship, and practical exposure in aviation and allied industries.
According to the airline, the scheme would serve as a strategic pipeline for building a competent and future-ready workforce to drive the sector’s growth.
To qualify, applicants must be 30 years or younger at the time of application, possess at least a Second Class Lower degree from a recognised university, and hold a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate.
The airline added that candidates must demonstrate adaptability, passion, and a strong desire to learn.
