ADC Blasts APC Over Lagos Violence, Labels Party ‘Terrorist In Disguise’

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a scathing attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of sliding into violence and “acting like a terrorist organisation” following a bloody disruption of its political gathering in Lagos.

The incident occurred in Alimosho Local Government Area where suspected thugs, said to be loyal to the APC, stormed a church premises hosting ADC members. The meeting, which had in attendance notable party leaders including Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour—who used the occasion to formally announce his defection to the ADC—was thrown into chaos as the attackers vandalised vehicles, seized property, and left several participants injured.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the attack as a desecration of a sacred space and a dangerous signal of growing political intolerance.

“The invasion of a church by government-backed thugs is not only sacrilegious but also symptomatic of a jittery ruling party desperate to silence dissenting voices,” Abdullahi declared.

The opposition party alleged that the Alimosho attack was not an isolated case but part of a broader campaign of intimidation across the country. It pointed to threats in Edo, harassment in Kogi, the closure of a private radio station in Niger, disruption of meetings in Kaduna, and violent attacks on convoys in Kebbi as proof of a coordinated suppression strategy.

Citing a recent Canadian court ruling that classified the APC as a terrorist organisation, the ADC warned that such incidents only reinforce that perception.

“If churches and other places of worship are no longer sacred to APC-sponsored thugs, how can the ruling party deny the charge of terrorism? Attacking religious sanctuaries is the very definition of terrorism,” Abdullahi added.

The party urged the Nigeria Police Force to demonstrate neutrality, resist political influence, and bring perpetrators of political violence to justice.

“The police must not be reduced to an enforcement arm of the ruling party. Nigerians and the world are watching. Our institutions must rise above partisan control if democracy is to survive,” the statement read.

According to the ADC, the ruling party’s embrace of violence betrays its lack of achievements to present to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Intimidation is a confession of failure. Instead of showcasing good governance, the APC has chosen brute force and suppression. This is dictatorship masquerading as democracy,” the party maintained.
