You Need Psychiatric Evaluation – Soludo Slams Politicians Promising One Term

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has declared that any politician who pledges to serve only one term in office requires psychiatric evaluation.

Speaking on Saturday during a campaign rally of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka, the governor insisted that such promises were deceptive and insulting to the intelligence of the electorate.

“There is zoning in Anambra, and after Soludo as governor for eight years, the next governor will come from Anambra Central,” he stated.

“Anybody contesting from Anambra South is attempting to disrupt the zoning arrangement. Some of them want to deceive us. How can anyone with a sound mind come and tell the people, ‘I will only do one term’? Such a person should be sent to a psychiatric home because they must have some mental problem.”

Soludo argued that since the Nigerian Constitution allows a governor to serve up to two terms of four years each, promising to run for a single term amounts to political gimmickry.

“Anybody who says he needs only one term is taking everybody for a fool,” the governor said, while also taking a swipe at aspirants whom he described as unqualified.

“Anambra has no place for street urchins. Some of them do not even have secondary school certificates, yet they want to be governor,” he added.

Soludo’s remarks come amid recent comments by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who suggested he was willing to serve as president for a single term if elected, to facilitate a North-South power transition.
