The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, has dismissed media reports suggesting looming industrial unrest in the institution, describing them as “misleading, sensational, and capable of creating unnecessary tension.”
In a statement issued on Friday, August 8, 2025, and signed by the Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Iroye, the school authorities insisted that academic and administrative activities remain “peaceful and conducive,” with staff and students going about their duties without disruption.
The clarification followed publications on some online platforms alleging that tensions were brewing after a recent Governing Council committee meeting was held in Lagos instead of Offa.
The statement says, “the claims made in the publication are not only misleading but also capable of misinforming the public.
“Contrary to the impression created, there is no industrial unrest at the Polytechnic.”
Explaining the decision to hold the meeting in Lagos, the management noted that it was a Council committee session — not a full Governing Council meeting — and that it was relocated due to the health condition of the Council Chairman, who was unable to travel to Offa at the time.
According to the statement, Lagos was chosen for pragmatic reasons, including cost efficiency and easier logistics for members traveling from distant locations such as the North-West.
“Some members found it less expensive and less stressful to fly directly to Lagos than to take multiple flights to Ilorin and then travel by road to Offa,” it said.
The Polytechnic further explained that such arrangements were not unprecedented, recalling that similar off-campus meetings had taken place during the tenure of previous Councils.
It stressed that the location of a meeting does not compromise the integrity of its decisions, which are guided by due process and the welfare of the institution.
The management urged media practitioners, especially bloggers, to verify and balance their reports before publication, warning against sensationalism that could “stoke unnecessary discord.”
“The Management remains committed to industrial harmony, transparency, and institutional development,” the statement concluded.
