Tinubu Returns From Japan, Brazil After Two-Week Diplomatic Tour

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after a two-week state visit to Japan and Brazil, where he sought to deepen Nigeria’s international partnerships.

The President touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at exactly 1:30 a.m. on Thursday. He was received by senior government officials led by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu had first departed Abuja for Tokyo to participate in the ninth edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The forum, which brought together African leaders and Japanese investors, focused on strengthening economic ties and driving sustainable development across the continent.

From Tokyo, the President proceeded to Brasília, where his administration engaged Brazil on broader areas of cooperation. At the end of the visit, both countries signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering energy, agriculture, and security. The agreements, according to the Presidency, are expected to boost trade volumes and foster mutual growth between the two nations.

His departure from Brazil was marked by a brief farewell ceremony at Brasília International Airport Air Force Base. On hand to see him off were the Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Mr. Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, and the Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete.

Also present was Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, alongside top government aides.

The presidential jet departed Brazil at 12:57 p.m. local time on Wednesday before arriving in Abuja in the early hours of Thursday.
