Tragedy struck in Monguno, Borno State, as three boys were confirmed dead after drowning in a pond located behind the General Hospital in the area.

The victims — Mallam Gana Mohammed, Modu Audu Saleh, and Abba Ngumami — were all residents of the Water Board Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Monguno.

According to Muhammed Aisami, father of one of the deceased, emergency responders and police personnel swiftly mobilised to the scene and, with the assistance of local residents, recovered the bodies from the water.

Medical personnel at the General Hospital in Monguno later confirmed the deaths, noting that no signs of foul play were observed.

The bodies have since been released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
