Taraba Deputy Governor Alkali Returns After Eight-Month Absence

The Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, yesterday returned to Jalingo, the state capital, after months of speculation over his whereabouts and state of health.

Alkali, who had been away from public view for eight months, flew into the city through Yalo Airport before being conveyed in a modest four-vehicle convoy to his official residence at the Government House.

His sudden reappearance put to rest swirling rumours that the deputy governor had been battling an undisclosed ailment. A short video clip of his arrival, which surfaced on social media, further stirred reactions among residents, many of whom had grown accustomed to his prolonged absence.

Though no official statement was issued regarding his health or the reason for his absence, sources within the Government House hinted that Alkali had been in Abuja for “personal and medical engagements.”

His absence had generated unease within political circles in Taraba, with some critics questioning his capacity to effectively discharge the responsibilities of his office.

Alkali’s return is expected to reshape the political atmosphere in the state as preparations for next year’s local government elections gather steam.

At the time of filing this report, no official engagements had been announced for the deputy governor.
