A man suspected of killing an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has died after allegedly jumping from a moving vehicle while being transported to the command headquarters.
NSCDC spokesperson in Jigawa, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the incident on Saturday in Dutse.
The deceased officer, SC Bashir Adamu-Jibril, was attacked by suspected hoodlums at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area while on official duty. He was reportedly stabbed, leading to his death.
According to Tijjani, the 45-year-old suspect, a resident of Shuwarin Town, was arrested on 7 August following credible intelligence linking him to the killing.
“While being transported to the command headquarters at high speed, the suspect miraculously freed himself from the handcuffs and jumped out of the moving vehicle in an attempt to escape,” Tijjani said.
He sustained severe injuries and was taken to Dutse General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The NSCDC assured that it would continue to pursue justice for the late officer and uphold law and order across the state.
