A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged members of the opposition to stop politicising the ongoing anti-corruption fight.
Recently, there was uproar following the arrest of some opposition politicians by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over allegations of corruption.
The move, which generated reactions from other parties, was perceived as the commencement of a crackdown on the opposition politicians to either weaken their parties or force those affected to join the ruling APC.
However, Oyintiloye, in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Sunday, said being in opposition parties does not confer immunity on those that anti-graft agencies feel should face probe for corrupt acts.
He subsequently urged those engaging in blackmail of President Bola Tinubu over the probe of ex-governors who are members of the opposition to desist, as such would not achieve their desire to stop the anti-graft agency from doing its work.
He said, “The EFCC has a mandate to investigate financial infractions against anyone, irrespective of political affiliations.
“Linking the President to the investigation of alleged financial infractions by opposition members in the name of politics is totally wrong.
“Whether you are a member of the ruling party or opposition, you are not immune to financial investigation.
“I want to caution members of the opposition parties to stop politicising what the EFCC is doing and prove their innocence, if they are innocent.
“President Tinubu is a man of honour and integrity, and he will not compromise his ideals in the name of politics. So, it is no longer business as usual.
“More corrupt politicians hiding in opposition parties with the intent to blackmail the President to get themselves off the hook will still be arrested.
“No room for graft under Tinubu administration,”
