A renowned human rights and anti-corruption activist, Comrade Ibrahim Garba Wala, popularly known as IG Wala, has officially dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition coalition, African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Wala announced his decision in a statement on Thursday, positioning himself as one of the latest entrants into the ADC ahead of the 2027 presidential election. His move comes shortly after the emergence of former Senate President, David Mark, as the party’s interim national chairman.
In his declaration, Wala called on Nigerians across generations to rally behind the ADC in its bid to dislodge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which he accused of deepening hardship across the country.
“The journey to a better Nigeria is not about fighting each other but about building bridges of understanding,” he said.
Reflecting on his political shift, the activist explained that Nigerians must look beyond blame and embrace collective responsibility.
“For a long time, like many of you, I have felt the sting of political frustration and disappointment. I have pointed fingers and placed blame, convinced that our nation’s problems were the fault of a few individuals. This is a common and understandable feeling, but I’ve come to a powerful realisation: our focus on blame has held us back. Blaming is easy. It keeps us stuck in the past and blinds us to the real work that needs to be done,” he declared.
Since July, the ADC has continued to attract influential figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, media mogul Dele Momodu, and ex-Kogi lawmaker Dino Melaye.
Despite the wave of defections, the ruling APC has dismissed the ADC’s relevance ahead of 2027, pointing to the party’s performance in the August 16 by-elections across the country as evidence of its weakness.
