The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, was declared wanted for questioning.
A ‘wanted person’ bulletin, which went viral earlier this week, had claimed that the actress was being sought by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit. The poster, bearing her photograph and the inscription “special police wanted”, further alleged that a reward was being offered for information leading to her arrest.
The publication triggered speculations on social media, with some users linking the alleged police invitation to the case of the late singer, Mohbad, or to family-related disputes.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday, the Force described the report as false and misleading, stressing that the so-called bulletin did not emanate from any official police source.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that the recent Wanted Person Bulletin circulating online, claiming that Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo is wanted by the Office of the IGP Monitoring Unit, is NOT an official communication from the Force,” the statement read.
The police urged Nigerians to desist from spreading unverified information and to always confirm sensitive reports through official channels.
