Arc Lola Ashiru, Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District on Monday inaugurated the Kwara South Heroes Editorial Team at his GRA office in Offa.

In his remarks, Senator Ashiru said the team’s mandate is to document and celebrate distinguished personalities across all professions who have contributed to the growth and development of Kwara South.

He explained that the first volume of the compendium will cover individuals from the immediate pre-independence era, as well as the First and Second Republics, while subsequent editions will expand to other sectors and generations.

The Senator stressed the importance of fair representation across all seven local government areas of Kwara South, describing the project as a legacy effort to preserve history and inspire the younger generation.

Speaking on behalf of the editorial team, Prof Bashir Olaitan Ibrahim of History & International Studies Department at the University of Ilorin described the initiative as timely, noting that “many of our heroes across various fields have been forgotten, and this project will serve as an encouragement for the upcoming generation.”

Also speaking, the team’s secretary and Special Assistant on Administration to the Senator, Mr. Olayemi Olaboye Itafa, emphasised that the compendium will not be restricted to politics but will highlight contributions from education, health, entrepreneurship, community service, and other fields that have shaped Kwara South.

The editorial team, comprising professionals from diverse backgrounds and drawn from all seven local government areas of the senatorial district, has been tasked with delivering the first volume of the compendium by December 2025.
