….Lawmakers Laud Governor AbdulRazaq’s Commitment to Grassroots Healthcare
The Kwara State Government has officially flagged off the 2025 edition of its Statewide Free Medical and Surgical Outreach, an initiative designed to provide quality healthcare services to residents across all 16 local government areas of the state.
The event, which held yesterday, Tuesday, August 5, at the Aishat Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital in Eiyenkorin, Asa Local Government Area, was graced by key government officials and lawmakers.
In attendance were the Chairman, House Committee on Health and Nutrition, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi; member of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Rukayat Shittu; and Hon. Yunus Oniboki, representing Afon Constituency.
In his goodwill message, Ogbeni Ogunniyi commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for his visionary leadership and commitment to the health sector.
He lauded the Governor for sustaining the free medical and surgical outreach programme, describing it as one of the most impactful interventions in the state’s healthcare system.
“This administration, under the leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has continued to invest heavily in health and social welfare programmes that directly benefit the poor and working-class citizens.
“As Chairman of the House Committee on Health, I am proud to see that our campaign promises—especially on health—are not only being kept, but exceeded,” he said.
He also praised the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, and her team for their dedication, professionalism, and tireless efforts in translating the Governor’s vision for a healthy Kwara into action.
The lawmaker urged Kwarans to take full advantage of the outreach when it reaches their local government, emphasizing that it is an opportunity to receive critical health services free of charge.
He also called on communities to support the medical teams during the outreach, ensuring smooth operations and wider reach.
Other top officials present at the flag-off included the Chairman of Asa Local Government, Alhaji Yahaya Shehu; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Taoheed Ayodeji; the Director of Public Health, Dr. Tosin Fakayode; and other senior officers of the ministry.
The free medical and surgical outreach remains one of the signature people-centered healthcare initiatives of the AbdulRazaq-led administration, reaching thousands of indigent residents annually with surgeries, consultations, screenings, and medication—all at no cost.
