The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday inaugurated its 45-member National Elective Convention Zoning Committee at the party’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, will chair the committee, with Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, as vice chairman, and Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, serving as secretary.
Speaking at the ceremony, Acting PDP National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, described the committee’s assignment as pivotal to repositioning the party for greater strength ahead of its November 2025 convention. He urged members to act swiftly, applying “wisdom, magnanimity and experience” to produce a robust zoning formula for a successful convention.
Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, lauded the calibre of members appointed to the committee, expressing confidence in their capacity to deliver. He reaffirmed the governors’ support for the National Working Committee’s efforts to “rescue Nigerians from bad governance.”
“Our party has survived many booby-traps and remains a credible alternative for Nigerians,” he said. “The PDP’s years in power left lasting democratic legacies, and our recent setbacks will only make us stronger.”
Responding on behalf of the committee, Governor Diri pledged to consult widely, engage stakeholders, and ensure fairness in all deliberations. “We will be consultative, inclusive, and just. Thank you for trusting us with this assignment,” he stated.
