The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party is considering former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as possible candidates for its 2027 presidential ticket.
Mohammed disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.
Mohammed described Jonathan as “one of the most celebrated politicians in Nigeria today” and said the party would welcome him back if he decided to return and contest.
“Certainly, former President Jonathan is one of the candidates we are considering if he joins us and opens his mind to run,” Mohammed said.
He also said Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, would have the opportunity if he chose to come back to the PDP.
“Obi is my friend and brother. If he comes to a platform where there are fewer encumbrances, he will be given the chance as well,” he said.
The governor noted that discussions were ongoing with other prominent politicians from the South, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.
“There are many politicians we are engaging with. I just had a session with Governor Amaechi,” he added. “He is free to return to the PDP if he wishes,” he said.
Mohammed said the PDP was working to strengthen its base ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that the party was more interested in attracting credible politicians than making noise about its moves.
