The Anambra State Government has come under intense public criticism following the circulation of a viral video showing armed operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi assaulting a female corps member, Jennifer Edema Elohor, and her colleagues in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on 23 July 2025, reportedly began when the vigilante operatives stormed a lodge housing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, accusing them of being internet fraudsters. Despite presenting their NYSC identity cards, the operatives allegedly beat Ms Elohor, tore her clothes, and left her partly unclothed.
The video has sparked outrage across social media platforms, with many users demanding that Governor Chukwuma Soludo ensure those responsible are prosecuted.
Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, confirmed that the operatives involved had been arrested and detained pending investigation.
He explained that the team was originally on the trail of suspected cultists on motorcycles when they pursued them into a compound and began searching houses.
“In the process, the unfortunate incident involving the corps member occurred. Immediately it happened, we arrested the operatives involved and placed them in detention,” he said.
According to Emeakayi, the victim and NYSC officials were invited to his office where their testimonies were taken. He added that a preliminary inquiry would determine whether the case warrants internal disciplinary measures or prosecution.
“Our conclusion is that while the operatives were on a legitimate assignment, the manner in which they acted was not acceptable. The government will not condone misuse of power by security personnel,” he assured.
