The Osun State Police Command has commenced a full investigation into the mysterious death of a young woman identified as Halimat, whose body was discovered in the Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo on Monday.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the lifeless body was recovered behind a mosque in the area, alongside a note suspected to be a suicide message.
“Police operatives deployed to the scene perceived the odour of Sniper, a poisonous substance commonly associated with suicide cases in the country,” Ojelabi revealed.
He explained that while preliminary findings suggested possible suicide, the police are treating the matter with caution.
“Something like a suicide note was found near the body. So, with all that, there was a suspicion that the deceased probably took her life,” Ojelabi said.
The police further clarified that no visible signs of violence were observed on the body.
“Upon recovery, there were no marks of violence on the deceased,” the spokesperson confirmed.
He added that investigators had located a relative of the deceased who provided crucial information to aid the ongoing probe.
“The relation of the deceased volunteered many pieces of information about her, which is helping us,” Ojelabi disclosed.
The Osun State Police Command has assured residents that all leads will be thoroughly explored to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
