Quantity surveying profession remains unknown to me and many young secondary school leavers not until my sister sat me down to give reasons to accept my admission to study Quantity Surveying at Federal Polytechnic Offa in the year 2008 after three (3) consecutive attempts to study Architecture at Federal University of Technology Minna. On that faithful day, after being offered admission to study QS at FEDPOFFA and my decision to reject the offer due to my aged long aspiration to become an architect just like Architect Lola Ashiru- an household name synonymous to success and riches in offa.
I can still vividly remember how my sister invited me to her room and her first question: Did you want to be rich like Chief Adesoye? Obviously, my response was a gargantuan “YES” owing to the status of Chief Adesoye in Offa not just as Asiwaju of Offa but a successful business man with a trademark of our beloved and favorite Okin Biscuits 🥰. My sister do not waste her time with a follow up statement that- if you want to be truly rich like Chief Adesoye you have to accept this offer to study Quantity Surveying because he (Adesoye) is equally a Quantity Surveyor. This statement was like a thunderbolt that struck my inner thought for a rethink to accept the offer of admission into Quantity Surveying Department. My sister’s admonition was later justified the day I visited DSS headquarters as students leader (Yellow house) in Abuja with an inscription of QS Olatunji Adesoye’s name on a commissioning plague as consultant quantity surveyor.
Today, Chief Emmanuel Olatunji Adesoye is no more but his legacy as the first Quantity Surveyor in Northern Nigeria and the second in the entire nation remains indelible inspiration to many young aspiring professionals in offa and its environ. To every young aspiring leaders, it is advisable to make our lives not a mere fruit but a root that keeps germinating.
Chief Emmanuel Olatunji Adesoye is no more but his legacy keeps inspiring many young professional quantity surveyors and successful entrepreneurs.
