Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin, has dismissed as “blatant falsehood” reports alleging that the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Adewale Egbedun, was suspended.
Ogundoyin, in a statement released on Thursday, accused an online platform of peddling a “malicious fabrication” aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing the reputation of the Conference.
“The claim that Egbedun was suspended over insubordination and abuse of office is entirely baseless. No press conference was held in Ibadan or elsewhere, and no pronouncement of suspension was ever made by me or any authorised officer of the Conference,” he said.
Reiterating that the body operates with transparency and due process in all its activities, Ogundoyin affirmed that Egbedun “remains a respected and active member who has not been found wanting in any way.”
He condemned the publication as lacking journalistic credibility, demanding an immediate retraction and public apology, while warning that the Conference may seek legal redress if the report is not corrected.
“Freedom of the press comes with responsibility. Spreading fake news not only misleads the public but undermines the integrity of our institutions,” he cautioned.
