Ogun Govt Denies Sealing Gbenga Daniel’s Property

The Ogun State Government has denied sealing any property belonging to former governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel.

Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Mr Tunji Odunlami, made this clarification on Monday during a press briefing at the Governor’s Office, Abeokuta.

Odunlami urged the senator to send a representative to the appropriate government office to present necessary documents for verification and obtain clearance, insisting that the government adheres to established procedures before sealing any property.

According to him, before any sealing action, properties are physically marked, and stickers or cross-signs are pasted to indicate the enforcement. He stressed that the notice seen on Daniel’s property was not a sealing notice but a “stop and quit” directive, summoning the property’s representatives for clarification.

“What we are doing now is no exception. This exercise was done in Abeokuta and is now extended to Shagamu and Ijebu-Ode,” Odunlami said, adding that the operation will also cover Ota and Ilaro, where Government Reserved Areas (GRAs) are located.

He explained that all affected building owners are required to present their permits and documents for verification, noting that Senator Daniel has yet to do so.

Odunlami emphasised that enforcement of physical planning laws is a daily mandate of the state, applied without bias to the identity of developers. The notices issued, he said, are part of ongoing efforts to regulate land use and promote urban development in the public interest.

“The goal is not to victimise anyone who obeys the law,” he stated, adding that genuine developers are expected to respond through appropriate channels for necessary plan adjustments or ratifications.

Citing Section 73 of the state’s physical planning law, the commissioner noted that enforcement notices could be issued on any development, irrespective of whether it predates the law’s commencement.

He appealed to the former governor and others served with such notices to respond promptly for verification and clearance.
