The founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Prophet Adefolusho Olasele, popularly known as Abbas Ajakaiye, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for his alleged involvement in the trafficking of illicit drugs from Ghana to Nigeria.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, confirmed that Olasele was apprehended on August 3, 2025, at his church in Okun Ajah, Lekki, Lagos, after several months on the run.
According to Babafemi, the clergyman fled to Ghana in June to evade arrest after being linked to two major seizures of cannabis. The first, weighing 200 kilogrammes, was intercepted at the Okun Ajah beach on June 4, while the second, a 700-kilogramme consignment, was recovered from his delivery van on July 6.
“Prophet Adefolusho was arrested at his church located on Ogombo Road, Okun Ajah, after NDLEA officers maintained surveillance throughout the day, waiting for the conclusion of the Sunday service. The operatives moved in the moment he stepped out of the church premises,” Babafemi disclosed.
He further stated that the arrest followed two previous failed attempts, during which the suspect escaped and fled to Ghana to hide. “In his statement, he confessed to ferrying the illicit consignments through waterways from Ghana into Nigeria,” Babafemi added.
The NDLEA said investigations are ongoing, with the cleric expected to face prosecution in connection with the two seizures of the potent cannabis strain, popularly known as ‘Ghana Loud’.
