The Oyo State House of Assembly has formally received a letter from Governor Seyi Makinde notifying lawmakers of his intention to embark on a one-month leave beginning Thursday, August 29, 2025.
The letter, which was read during Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, was transmitted in line with Section 190(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which requires a sitting governor to duly inform the legislature before proceeding on leave.
In the correspondence, Governor Makinde stated that his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, would act in his stead throughout the period of his absence.
“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, 29th September 2025,” the governor wrote.
Acknowledging receipt of the letter, Speaker Ogundoyin assured the Assembly’s support for a seamless handover and continuity of governance while reaffirming the legislature’s commitment to constitutional order.
With the Assembly’s confirmation, Barrister Lawal will assume full powers of the office as Acting Governor from August 29 until Governor Makinde resumes duties on September 29.
The House is scheduled to reconvene for plenary on September 16, 2025.
