A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Lagos, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye”, has alleged that the scheme is withholding her discharge certificate in retaliation for her criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
DAILY POST recalls that Ms Uguamaye came into public prominence earlier this year after a viral TikTok video in which she criticised the Tinubu government and described Lagos as a “smelling state.”
In a recent video, the corps member claimed her Local Government Inspector (LGI) refused to clear her for April, despite her presence on the scheduled date. She alleged she was repeatedly instructed to “go to the back” during the clearance exercise until her file was seized. According to her, the official declined to attend to her and eventually ordered her to leave.
Ms Uguamaye stated she was later informed she would not receive her discharge certificate on the grounds that she missed the April clearance — an accusation she strongly refutes.
“I genuinely wish I wasn’t a Lagos State corps member because it’s a waste of my time,” she wrote on social media, adding that she had decided to put the matter behind her.
As of press time, the NYSC had yet to respond to the allegations. Efforts to reach its Director of Press and Public Relations, Edwin Megwa, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his mobile line went unanswered.
