The Onisagbe of Sagbe, His Imperial Majesty Isiaka Sadiku Ariwaijoye Kariola I, has appealed to Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Alhaji Femi Yusuf, to urgently intervene following a series of bandit attacks that have unsettled Sagbe and neighbouring communities.
Speaking in Sagbe, the monarch lamented that the spate of attacks had forced residents of several communities, including Ologomo, Ilu Ajegunle, Ilu Agbon, and Alabedera, to flee their homes. He added that villages such as Owode, Alasoro, and Alamo have been deserted after repeated assaults by armed gangs.
According to him, a fresh attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Bankole, a community under the Sagbe domain, where bandits killed some residents, rustled an unconfirmed number of cattle, and abducted several people.
“Our community has no police presence, and the efforts of our local vigilante have proved inadequate. We are pleading with the government to deploy soldiers to our area and for the DSS to come to our aid,” the Onisagbe said.
The royal father warned that the continuous attacks pose a grave threat to peace and stability in Ifelodun Local Government. He, however, expressed optimism that the state government would act swiftly to forestall further bloodshed.
“We pray our government will not spoil. Kwara State will not spoil, and our local government, Ifelodun, will not spoil,” he added.
