The people of Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State have received a major boost in electricity supply following the commissioning of a 100KW Hybrid Solar Mini Grid designed to power agricultural clusters and small businesses in the area.
The project, facilitated by Engr. Suleiman Bolakale Kawu-Agaka, FNSE, the Dan-Iyan Ilorin Emirate and Hasken Lafiagi Emirate, is aimed at improving agricultural irrigation, supporting enterprises, and creating job opportunities for young people in the rice-producing belt of the state.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, a former Chairman of Edu Local Government Council, Alhaji Alfa Tsonga, alongside other community leaders, described the intervention as a milestone in rural electrification and sustainable development.
“This is a laudable project and the first of its kind gesture that will serve thousands of households and businesses. Many thanks to the Hasken Lafiagi of Lafiagi Emirate, Engr. Suleiman Bolakale Kawu-Agaka, for facilitating universal electricity access and stimulating socio-economic development in Edu Local Government by providing reliable and sustainable energy,” Tsonga said.
Other stakeholders noted that the solar facility would not only meet the power needs of households and enterprises but also stimulate local economic activities, particularly in agriculture and food processing.
Community representatives expressed gratitude to Engr. Kawu-Agaka for his commitment to grassroots development, offering prayers for his continued success.
