Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has openly declared his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a personal friend of 22 years.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Soludo said he stood firmly by his political alignment with the president and his ongoing reforms. The governor, who arrived wearing a cap emblazoned with Tinubu’s insignia, emphasised that his position was rooted in personal loyalty and shared political ideology.

“These caps were produced even from the time the president visited Anambra State, and you saw all the billboards and messages proclaiming that progressives are working together,” Soludo stated.

He explained that his vision for national development required unity among all political parties that profess progressive ideals.

“It’s a fundamental idea I believe in very strongly – all the political parties who profess progressivism should come together in a massive coalition to deepen not only the process of our democracy but also the economic and socio-development of our country,” he said.

On his relationship with the president, Soludo was unequivocal: “Talk about Tinubu, I have no apologies about it. President Tinubu is my friend and has been my friend for 22 years now and counting. You don’t deny a friend; I support him.”

The former Central Bank Governor also commended the president’s economic policies, particularly the structural reforms, which he described as bold and necessary.
“I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the economy and the structural reforms. I have said so severally – we are taking the right steps; we only need to stay the course,” he concluded.
