INEC Begins Online Pre-Registration For 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced online pre-registration of voters as part of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on X, the commission urged eligible Nigerians to begin their registration via its dedicated portal, www.cvr.inecnigeria.org.

The platform allows prospective voters to pre-register and book appointments for in-person verification. Qualified citizens, particularly first-time voters, can input their details such as full name, date of birth, residential address, and preferred polling unit.

The portal also provides services for transfer of voting locations, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and correction of personal information.

According to INEC, physical registration will commence on August 25, 2025, at all 37 state offices and the 774 local government area offices nationwide. The exercise will later be extended to other designated registration centres, subject to security considerations and logistical assessments.

The commission emphasised that the CVR is open to Nigerians aged 18 and above, while warning against multiple registrations, noting that offenders would face penalties.

INEC further appealed to citizens to take advantage of the exercise, stressing that voter registration remains central to inclusive democratic participation.

The CVR exercise will run for several months, after which a preliminary register of voters will be published for public scrutiny before the final list of eligible voters is compiled for the 2027 polls.
