Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, has mocked leading opposition figures over the poor performance of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the just concluded bye-elections.
Onanuga, in a post on X on Monday morning, shared a picture of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, with the caption: “How is the market now?”
The remark, widely interpreted as a taunt, has stirred political discourse amid growing questions about the viability and influence of opposition parties in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
It was reported that the opposition leaders, who have been positioning themselves as a coalition to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, threw their weight behind the ADC in the bye-elections as a test of political strength.
However, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) swept the majority of the contested seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) managed to secure a few wins.
The development has once again underlined the dominance of the APC and heightened doubts about the opposition’s ability to consolidate ahead of the next general elections.
