The Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union (FIBSU) National, under the leadership of its National President, Aare Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale, has lauded the Oyo State Government for disbursing ₦600 million as compensation to property owners affected by the ongoing Circular Road project in Ibadan.
The commendation follows the release of the fourth tranche of ₦200 million at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, where Commissioner Hon. Williams Akin Funmilayo reiterated that the full ₦1 billion compensation would soon be completed.
In a statement issued by FIBSU National, Aare Giwa described the gesture as a testament to Governor Seyi Makinde’s compassionate leadership and people-oriented governance.
“FIBSU National salutes Governor Seyi Makinde for his responsiveness to the yearnings of the people and for prioritising fairness and justice. The compensation scheme reflects a government that values human dignity and the sacrifices of its citizens for development. This is a hallmark of true statesmanship,” the statement read.
FIBSU further noted that the Circular Road project, which dates back to 2005 during the tenure of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, has remained a landmark initiative critical to Ibadan’s infrastructural development. The students’ body praised the administration’s decision to compensate both legal and illegal property owners, describing it as “uncommon empathy in governance.”
The union also urged beneficiaries to utilise the compensation judiciously while cautioning them against falling victim to fraudulent practices.
Representatives of the affected property owners had earlier applauded Governor Makinde for fulfilling his promise, aligning with FIBSU’s position that the current administration has consistently demonstrated credibility and accountability.
“On behalf of Ibadan students nationwide, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, and reaffirm our readiness to continue supporting laudable policies that promote development, equity and inclusiveness,” Aare Giwa concluded.
