Former lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Ahmed Ogembe, has rubbished his suspension by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he had already pitched his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before the party’s action.
The PDP in Kogi had, on Friday, announced Ogembe’s suspension over alleged anti-party activities. The party accused him of working against its interest by collapsing its political structure in Okene Local Government Area into the ADC.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party described the move as “gross misconduct, betrayal of trust and deliberate acts capable of undermining the survival of the PDP in Kogi State.”
But in a swift reaction, Ogembe dismissed the suspension as baseless, insisting that the PDP lacked the power to sanction him since he had already defected.
His words: “You cannot suspend someone who is no longer under your platform. I have since moved to the ADC with my supporters, and that is where I belong.”
The development further deepens the cracks within the opposition PDP in Kogi State, which has in recent months been grappling with internal discord and high-profile defections.
Political observers believe Ogembe’s exit and the transfer of his loyalists to the ADC could weaken the PDP’s grassroots base in central Kogi, especially in Okene, considered a stronghold in past election cycles.
