A Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has assured residents of the state of restoration of better and meaningful lives when the party returns to the Oke Ayoba Government House in 2026.
The medical expert, who said that things had nosedived in the state since the PDP left government, urged residents to support the party to reclaim power through the June 20, 2026, election.
Oluyede, who spoke at his ward in Ikere Ekiti on Friday, where he officially informed party members of his intention to contest for the office of the state governor, advised residents yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to do so to be able to vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress on election day.
He said, “Ekiti needs attention. That is the reason I am contesting. At present, nothing is working. Things are worse. Can anybody tell me their lives are better now this year than it was four years ago? I don’t know anybody who can say that!
“The roads were better four years ago. No pipe-borne water. There is no sign of growth. People were happier four years ago. Their worth as human beings was better four years ago. I have no other reasons to run other than that we need to make life better in the state.”
The medical expert, who said that the PDP remained strong and positioned to defeat the governing APC in the poll, dismissed the African Democratic Congress in the state, saying, “ADC is a contraption of people who are against President Bola Tinubu. ADC is not designed for the Ekiti elections in 2026. So, I am not really bothered about it. People who want to win elections in Ekiti are in either the APC or the PDP.
“But as the case is, the PDP has no problem, and it has the endorsement of the people of the state to win. We do not need endorsement of past governors, but that of Ekiti people, which we have got, and it is their votes that will take us to power.”
He described people who defected from the party as “those who cannot find their feet in the PDP, and they are so few. These are people who are doing what I call, ‘give me my daily bread politics.”
Oluyede, who said that the best of the current APC government in the state was far from being enough, said, “We have to see the APC out of power in this state.”
He sought the support of party members who had gathered for the event from across the 177 wards in the state for him to be able to win the party’s ticket in the forthcoming PDP governorship primary election.
Oluyede concluded, “I am here to tell all that I am contesting. I hereby declare my intention to run for the Office of the Governor in 2026. I am on the march to claim Oke Ayoba Government House in 2026.”
