Eight individuals accused of burgling the national secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have been remanded in prison by Magistrates’ Courts in Kuje and Karu.
The suspects, seven men and one woman, allegedly broke into the party’s headquarters on Monday, 28 July, carting away administrative documents, payment vouchers, official stamps, bank books, and office equipment.
According to a statement by the SDP National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the suspects were arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and initially held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) before being arraigned. They were charged on Tuesday, 29 July, and Thursday, 31 July, and subsequently remanded in Keffi, Kuje, and Suleja prisons.
The suspects were identified as Ambo Ekpenyong, Humphrey Onwukaeze, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Chief Solsuema Osaro, Nurudeen Bissallah, Dogara Abubakar, Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, and Judith Isreal Shuaibu.
Aiyenigba alleged that former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, made unsuccessful attempts to secure bail for the accused persons.
“All the eight invaders are now in custody awaiting the hearing of the cases against them,” the statement read, adding that materials recovered from the suspects were presented in court by the police prosecution team.
