In a decisive move to avert potential tragedies, the Ebem Ohafia community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has imposed an outright ban on the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) within Ebem Market.
The decision followed an emergency meeting of the Council of Chiefs and Elders at the Ebem Ujurueze Palace, Ekeleugo Ebem, and was formally communicated in a statement signed by the paramount ruler of the Ebem Ohafia Ancient Kingdom, Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha; President General of EODU, Emeka Mba; Idika Kalu Uche; and Ifeanyi Okali, among others.
Beyond the LPG ban, the community leaders declared a zero-tolerance stance on cultism, gangsterism, and drug abuse, effective immediately. They called on parents and guardians to monitor their children closely, warning landlords to evict tenants engaged in such practices or risk disciplinary action.
“Anyone found in unlawful possession of arms will be handed over to law enforcement agencies,” the Chiefs and Elders resolved.
In a related directive, the Ebem Ohafia leadership issued a two-week quit notice to all scrap dealers operating in the community, citing rising cases of vandalism and property break-ins allegedly linked to their activities and supply chains. Failure to comply, they warned, would attract severe disciplinary measures.
