2027: Kwara South Political Leaders, Stakeholders Sustain Lobby For Zoning of Governorship To Kwara North At 7th Unification Meeting In Irepodun LG

On Sunday, 3rd Aug 2025, Irepodun Local Government hosted the monthly unification meeting of the House of Assembly Members and the Executive Chairmen of Kwara South extraction. The Executive Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Hon Abdulazeez Yakub, was the chief host for this month’s (August 2025) meeting. The monthly unification meeting is rotated across Kwara South senatorial district and is said to be the first of it kind in the history of Kwara State. The initiative spare headed by the House of Assembly Members and Council Chairmen of Kwara South extraction is geared towards evolving a new political order that will entrench unity, progress, and development in Kwara South.

This seventh round of consecutive monthly meetings hosted this time in Irepodun Local Government had the following in attendance: Rt Hon Ojo Olayiwola, Deputy Speaker (Oke Ogun Constituency); Hon Gani Abolarin, Chief Whip (Ekiti Constituency); Hon Gbenga Yussuf (Eesa Shawo Igbodun Constituency); Hon Shola Odetundun (Irepodun Constituency); Hon AGF Salahuddeen (Omupo Constituency); Hon Rasaq Omotosho (Isin Constituency); Hon Joseph Bamgboye (Oke-Ero Constituency); Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi (Ojomu Balogun Constituency); Hon Chief Benjamin Jolayemi (Chairman Isin LG); Hon Abdulazeez Yakub (Irepodun LG); Hon Femi Yusuf (Ifelodun LG); Hon James Fadipe (Chairman Oke Ero LG); Hon Sulaiman Olatunji (Chairman Offa LG); and Hon Wale Awelewa (Chairman Ekiti LG)

Leaders from Irepodun present at the meeting are: Deputy Chief of Staff, Princess Olubukola Babalola; Gen Olayemi Abidoye rtd; Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin Olori Ewe; APC National Exco Member, Mrs. Toyin Opawoye. Irepodun Legislative Council led by Hon Muritala Omogoye; Irepodun Local Government Party structure led by the Party Chairman along with the local CWC. Also in attendance are the Ward Chairmen along with the Ward Central Working Committee (CWC). Members of the Kwara South Equity Advocate Group drawn from across the seven local governments of Kwara South led by Alhaji Ibrahim Lawal were also present.

The conveners of the meeting emphasized the call for Kwara South to continue to stand in solidarity and support of our amiable leader Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON for his inclusive approach to politics, for demystifying governance and for improving the lot of Kwara Southern under his watch. The lobby and agitation for Governorship to be rotated to Kwara North come 2027 was emphatically sustained at the meeting. The Deputy Speaker speaking on behalf of the Assembly members and Executive Chairmen calls for unity and collaboration among Kwara South stakeholders, party leaders, and our teeming members.

In response, the leaders and stakeholders from Irepodun, present at the meeting, commended the House of Assembly and Executive Chairmen of Kwara South extraction for spare heading this new political order which is to promote unity and collaboration for the progress and development of Kwara South.

Irepodun leaders and stakeholders further affirm as follows
1. Emphasized their resolute commitment to the leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON.
2. They acknowledged and commended the focused approach of the Governor to infrastructural development of the state and the maintenance of safety and security in Kwara South and across every part of the state.
3. They pledged their continued support for the policies and programs of the state government under the able and dynamic leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON.
4. They align with the call for Kwara North to have the Governorship slot come 2027.
5. They pleaded for a consideration for Igbomina (Irepodun LG) to be allowed to have the Kwara South senatorial slot for 2027 in the spirit of balancing and inclusion.
