19 States Hit By Floods – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has disclosed that women and children are the worst-hit victims of the ongoing flooding crisis, which has ravaged 19 states across the country.

According to the agency’s latest data dashboard, five states recorded the highest number of affected persons. They are Imo, Rivers, Abia, Borno and Kaduna.

NEMA reported that the floods have so far claimed 165 lives, with 82 persons declared missing, while 119,791 others have been directly impacted.

“About 138 persons sustained various degrees of injuries, 43,936 were displaced, 8,594 houses were affected, and 8,278 farmlands were destroyed across 43 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in 19 states,” the agency stated.

A breakdown of the victims shows that 53,314 are children, 36,573 are women, 24,600 are men, 5,304 are elderly, and 1,863 are persons with disabilities.

The 19 states affected by the disaster include Abia, FCT, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, Rivers and Sokoto.
