The administration of Offa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State has refuted reports alleging that it appointed 64 Special Assistants and eight Supervisory Councillors.
The council, led by Hon. Suleiman Olatunji Omituntun, described the claims as “false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.”
This was contained in a statement signed by Abiola Azeez Babatunde, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman earlier today.
The council noted that the allegations were credited to a factional group identified as Offa KOYA – Offa KOWOSI.
The statement accused the group of peddling baseless claims in a bid to distract the administration from its ongoing developmental efforts.
“At no time did this administration appoint such a number. These claims are not only false but also an orchestrated attempt to derail our focus on the progress and unity of Offa,” the statement read.
The council advised the factional group to embrace constructive criticism rather than resort to propaganda, adding that internal disagreements within the group may be responsible for the circulation of unverified statements.
The Suleiman Olatunji-led administration highlighted some of its achievements since assuming office, including improved transparency, financial prudence, infrastructure upgrades, and enhanced community engagement.
The council further pledged to continue prioritising people-centered projects, youth and women empowerment, and sustainable development initiatives.
While reaffirming its commitment to accountability, the council warned against further spread of fake news and divisive narratives, stressing that such actions threaten the peace and stability of Offa.
“We urge those behind these falsehoods to desist immediately. Any future attempt to incite the public with misinformation will be addressed according to the law,” the statement concluded.
