Two members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were confirmed dead on Sunday while attempting to defuse explosive devices reportedly left behind after last month’s Israeli airstrikes.
The incident took place in Khorramabad, a city in western Iran that had come under attack during a recent escalation in hostilities between Iran and Israel.
According to a statement issued by the IRGC and reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, the fatalities occurred during an ongoing operation to secure the area from unexploded ordnance. “Two members of the Guards were killed Sunday in Khorramabad while clearing the area of explosives left by the Zionist regime’s aggression,” the report read.
The names of the deceased officers have not been released, and authorities have yet to disclose the specific nature of the explosives involved. No additional injuries were reported at the time of filing this report.
