President Bola Tinubu has declared that the historical narrative of the Yoruba nation would have been incomplete had he lost the 2023 presidential election.
He made this assertion on Sunday at the 8th-day Fidau prayers for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away at 91.
The revered monarch, a close associate of former President Muhammadu Buhari since the 1980s, died on the same day Buhari’s death was announced. Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne on 2 April 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers.
Reflecting on his relationship with the late Awujale, Tinubu disclosed that the monarch had personally encouraged him to contest the 2023 presidential election, assuring him of victory.
“Our history would not have been completely and richly documented if I had failed in the last election,” Tinubu remarked. “I succeeded because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale.”
