At least 15 persons were reportedly killed in Kwallajiya village, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, following a brutal attack by suspected members of the notorious Lakurawa gang.
Sources revealed that the assailants stormed the village on Wednesday afternoon, unleashing mayhem on residents in what has become a recurring pattern of terror in the region. All victims were said to have been buried later that evening in accordance with Islamic rites.
A local source, who spoke under anonymity, expressed grave concern over the persistent attacks, blaming the situation in part on alleged informants within the communities.
“It is imperative that residents strengthen collaboration with security forces to stem the tide of these criminal activities,” the source said.
Efforts to reach the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, for official comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
