The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos, has confirmed the arrest of seven individuals in connection with the violent death of an engineer, Badmus Monsur, during a land-related altercation at a government-allocated property in Agidingbi, Lagos.
Monsur, an employee of Nigercat Nigeria Group of Companies, was reportedly killed when a group of armed men stormed the disputed site. The company’s Chairman, Alhaji Akeem Osuolale, has since raised alarm over alleged attempts by certain senior law enforcement officers to influence the investigation and secure the premature release of the suspects.
Speaking to journalists in Ikeja, Osuolale expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the lead investigator, CSP Oyewale, for their prompt intervention. However, he cautioned against a repeat of past incidents where arrested suspects were inexplicably released, allegedly under questionable circumstances.
“I sincerely appreciate the efforts of the IGP and CSP Oyewale in ensuring that seven people connected to the murder of my engineer have been apprehended,” Osuolale stated. “But we are deeply concerned, as there have been instances in the past where suspects were arrested and then released the same day, both at Alausa and FCID, while some of our staff were still being detained.”
He further alleged that the perpetrators had previously issued threats to him and his team, boasting of their connections within security circles. Osuolale claimed that no fewer than 25 armed thugs were deployed during the attack, which ultimately claimed the life of the engineer.
Calling on Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene, Osuolale appealed for a thorough, impartial investigation and swift justice to prevent a recurrence of such violence.
Efforts to obtain comments from the police were unsuccessful, as authorities maintained that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
