Senate To Hold Special Session In Honour Of Late President Buhari

The Nigerian Senate is set to convene a special session on Wednesday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who recently passed away at the age of 82.

According to DAILY POST, the session will serve as a solemn reflection on Buhari’s enduring legacy and contributions to national development.

This follows a similar tribute by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), which last week held a commemorative session in his honour.

Speaking during that event, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described Buhari as a leader who governed with dignity, exercised restraint, and carried the weight of office with quiet fortitude.

The former president died in London on 13 July, after a prolonged illness. He was laid to rest last week in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in a ceremony attended by dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.

Born in Katsina, Buhari remains Nigeria’s second-longest-serving leader, having ruled as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.
