Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called on all eligible residents to participate actively in today’s local government elections across the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, the governor underscored the critical role of local government as the tier of government closest to the people, describing it as pivotal to the delivery of essential services and grassroots development.
“This election presents an important opportunity for Lagosians to influence governance at the community level by electing chairmen and councillors who will champion their interests,” Governor Sanwo-Olu noted.
Emphasising the civic significance of the polls, he urged registered voters to exercise their franchise peacefully, stressing that voting is both a constitutional right and a civic responsibility.
“This process is not merely about ballots—it is an affirmation of democratic participation and a powerful expression of your collective voice,” he stated.
Sanwo-Olu also assured the public of a secure and transparent electoral environment, disclosing that security agencies have been mobilised and strategically deployed to polling units and communities to safeguard voters, electoral officers, and materials.
Reaffirming LASIEC’s preparedness to conduct the polls, the governor appealed to political actors, candidates, and party agents to maintain peace, demonstrate fairness, and respect the rule of law throughout the exercise.
