The Rivers State Women Association of Nigeria (RIVSWAN) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to order over what they described as his “unguarded and malicious utterances”.
The association strongly criticised Wike’s recent remarks directed at Dame Judith Amaechi, former First Lady of Rivers State and wife of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. The former governor, during a televised programme, alleged that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was paying Dame Amaechi N4 billion monthly to train women in the Niger Delta region.
In a statement issued on Friday, RIVSWAN described Wike’s comments as “baseless falsehoods fuelled by bitterness, ignorance, and a troubling lack of decorum unbecoming of a federal cabinet member.”
They further urged the public to disregard the minister’s claims, which they said were clearly designed to tarnish the image of Dame Amaechi and undermine her contributions to women empowerment in the Niger Delta.
“The entire allegation is not only laughable but an insult to the intelligence of Nigerians,” the statement read. “It demonstrates either a gross misunderstanding of the NDDC’s budgetary framework or a calculated smear campaign against a woman of honour and substance.”
The group concluded by reaffirming its support for Dame Amaechi and called for a more responsible tone in national discourse, especially from individuals occupying sensitive positions in government.
