President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded the Nigerian Super Falcons for their exceptional performance in the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and encouraged them to finish strong in the final clash against the host nation, Morocco.
This expression of support was conveyed via the President’s official X handle on Saturday, where he shared a message of motivation and admiration for the team ahead of the highly anticipated final match at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
The President’s statement read:
“My beloved Super Falcons,
Tonight, you stand on the brink of greatness as you face Morocco in the WAFCON 2024 final. Your remarkable journey over the past three weeks has filled our hearts with pride. You have flown the Nigerian flag with honour, resilience, and undeniable strength.
On and off the pitch, you have exemplified true sportsmanship. I was particularly moved by your heartfelt gesture in visiting Gabriela Salgado of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana following the semi-final. Such an act underscores our deep African values of empathy, compassion, and solidarity.
If football were decided by merit alone, you would already be champions. You advanced from the group stage unbeaten, triumphed through the knockout rounds, and conceded just one goal en route to the final. More so, your legacy includes winning all nine of your previous WAFCON finals.
On behalf of a grateful nation, we rally behind you. Our prayers and unwavering support are with you as you aim to clinch a record tenth continental title.
To demonstrate our commitment, I have dispatched a presidential delegation to Rabat to cheer you on and represent the full support of the government and the Nigerian people.
