Oyo Govt Demolishes Abandoned Hotel In Ibadan

The Oyo State Government has demolished an abandoned property formerly operated as a hotel in Ibadan, the state capital.

Investigations by News Bulletin Nigeria revealed that the structure — identified as De Castle Inn — is situated at the Total Garden axis, along the bustling Mokola–Agodi Gate Road. The building had reportedly been deserted by its owners for several years.

The government, in previous warnings, had urged owners of derelict properties across the state to either renovate or repurpose them, citing security concerns. Authorities alleged that such abandoned structures often serve as safe havens for criminal elements.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development, Mr William Akin-Funmilayo, reiterated in a statement issued in February that the government would not hesitate to reclaim and demolish any abandoned properties posing security risks.

The demolition exercise commenced over the weekend, following the removal of valuables from the premises.

Security operatives were stationed at the site to maintain law and order, as heavy machinery, including bulldozers, pulled down the structure yesterday.
