[OPINION] Dr. Ebeloku Ademola : The Gains Of Federal Polytechnic Ile-oluji Is The Loss Of Federal Polytechnic Offa

By Omuiyadun Yah Omuz Hammed

The above caption may seems controversial to an uninformed person about the present activities in both Federal Polytechnic Ile-oluji, Ondo state where Dr. Ebeloku is presently serving as second substantive Rector of the institution and Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State where this same man (Ebeloku) started his lecturing career as assistant lecturer before he rose to the position of chief lecturer- a level that as well qualified him to be the Rector in the same institution.

*What are the gains of Fedpolel?*

Today, Federal Polytechnic Ile-oluji community both staff, students and the host community are reaping bountifully from the ingenious and goal oriented leadership of Dr. Ebeloku due to his style centered on God fearing, liberalism, fairness, unity of purpose and empathy which has helped the polytechnic growth deviod of dispute and controversy.

Despite the micro internally generated revenue of the polytechnic and the economic crisis affecting different institutions in the country which led to astronomical increments of school fees across the country, Dr. Ebeloku out of empathy recognized the fact that the whole burden of administrative needs must not be put on students and their respective parents/sponsors through obnoxious school fess increment. As of present, students of Federal Polytechnic Ile-oluji pays the least amount of school fees in south west when comparing to other federal polytechnics in the region.

Also, the staff welfare of the polytechnic has improved considerably under the leadership of Dr. Ebeloku while both academic and non-academic staff unions in the polytechnic are enjoying peaceful collaboration with the management without agitation before getting what’s due to their respective members. Students Union and Alumni association are equally not left out while the host community is getting a fair share from the leadership of Ademola Ebeloku. To cap it all, despite being a christen and Ile-oluji also being a christen dominated society, Dr. Ebeloku has been so fair to the micro population of Muslim Staff and students of the polytechnic (this can be justified from the management support to Muslim community of the polytechnic in the ongoing massive construction of Islamic Centre donated by a Good Samaritan). The list remains endless!

*In contrast, What is the loss of Federal Polytechnic Offa?*

Presently, all the above mentioned gains enabled by Dr. Ebeloku at Federal Polytechnic Ile-oluji are directly opposite when compared to the present reality at Federal Polytechnic Offa- school fees were obnoxiously increased at the expense of the masses, ungodly introduction of different charges, unfriendly handling of staff welfare, victimization of union leaders, conspicuous disrespect and hostility to host community leaders among others.

As a former union leader at Federal Polytechnic Offa and pioneer union leader at Federal Polytechnic Ile-oluji, I am bold to say that: the gains of Federal Polytechnic Ile-oluji of having Dr. Ebeloku as their Rector is the loss of Federal Polytechnic Offa having groomed a seasoned administrator like Dr. Ebeloku while sacrificing him just like Manchester City sacrificing Cole Palmer for Chelsea.

It’s my prayer that National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) should not miss out on having Dr. Ademola Ebeloku as Executive Secretary after the completion of his tenure at Federal Polytechnic Ile-oluji, in the same vein; I equally prayed for my Alma matta, Federal Polytechnic Offa to be blessed with another Ebeloku when selecting a new rector for the polytechnic.
