Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide and public affairs commentator, has accused Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of being responsible for the killing of over 50 soldiers, 24 police officers, and numerous civilians across the South-East.
Omokri made the allegation during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, while responding to recent remarks by former Anambra State governor, Mr Peter Obi, who questioned the rationale behind the ongoing trial of Kanu, describing it as illogical.
In a rebuttal, Omokri asserted that he possesses video evidence showing Kanu inciting violence, including instructing his followers to kill security operatives and allegedly ordering the burning down of Lagos State.
He said, “Peter Obi said the trial of Nnamdi Kanu does not make sense. I have a video — which cannot be aired here due to BBC guidelines — in which Kanu is heard telling his supporters to kill soldiers and burn down Lagos.
“Following that video, more than 50 soldiers were killed in the South-East. In one incident, an army couple was brutally murdered and beheaded in Imo State.
“In total, 160 police stations had to be shut down due to coordinated attacks by IPOB members, unknown gunmen, and the Eastern Security Network. Twenty-four police officers lost their lives in the process.”
Omokri questioned why Peter Obi had allegedly failed to condemn the activities of IPOB and related violent groups, insisting that Kanu’s prosecution is not only justified but necessary for national security.
“How can anyone say the trial of a person accused of these atrocities does not make sense?” he asked.
