The Offa Metropolitan Club (OMC) has congratulated its pioneer president, Dr. (Mrs.) Sarah Omotunde Alade, OON, as she was honoured with the Distinguished Alumni Award of Excellence by the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State.

The award was presented on Tuesday, July 16, 2025, during a colourful event at the University Auditorium as part of activities marking UNILORIN’s Golden Jubilee celebration.

Dr. Alade, a trailblazing economist and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was among a select group of illustrious alumni recognized for their exceptional achievements and national service.

The institution, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, celebrated its 50th anniversary by honouring distinguished former students who have not only made remarkable contributions in their respective fields but have also brought pride and visibility to the university on national and international platforms.

For Dr. Alade, the honour was a return to familiar ground. She is an alumna and former staff of the university, where she laid the academic and professional foundation for a public service career that would eventually see her become a key player in Nigeria’s financial architecture.

Beyond her tenure at the Central Bank, she also served as the Special Adviser on Finance and Economy to former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Reacting to the recognition, the Offa Metropolitan Club expressed deep pride in Dr. Alade’s achievements.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary of OMC, Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi, the club described Dr. Alade as “our amazon” and commended UNILORIN for bestowing the honour on one of its finest.

“Dr. Alade, as our pioneer President, played a pivotal role in setting the tone and direction for OMC’s impact-driven projects, including the flagship first-class healthcare facility in Offa. Her foresight, commitment, and leadership continue to inspire us,” Ogunniyi noted.

He added, “We are proud of this well-deserved recognition and profoundly thank the University of Ilorin for celebrating one of Offa’s finest daughters.”
