Tragedy struck in Umueri village, Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the alleged murder of a pregnant nurse by one Chiemelie Oborji, who is currently at large.
The suspect reportedly lured the unsuspecting victim to his residence under the guise that his mother was gravely ill and in need of urgent medical attention. Upon her arrival, the woman was allegedly attacked and gruesomely butchered.
A viral Facebook video commentary, circulated by a user identified as Iroko Ogbunike, claimed that the victim’s remains were discovered in a pit near the suspect’s compound, with vital organs allegedly removed — suggesting the possibility of a ritual killing.
“Some parts of the nurse’s body were missing, and this has heightened suspicions that the murder was for ritual purposes. The entire community is in mourning and disbelief,” the post stated.
The disturbing video, viewed by our correspondence, showed members of the community retrieving the lifeless body from the pit. One of the youths, visibly aggrieved, condemned the act and declared the suspect “wanted by the entire community.”
As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Police Command had not issued an official statement. Repeated efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, proved abortive, as his mobile line was unreachable.
