The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State commends the courageous and compassionate action of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, for personally visiting communities ravaged by banditry and communal unrest in his domain.
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the Emir visited Guye Dadi, Guye Doko, Kpotunko, Bussa/Shaaban/Cheko, Gamalegi, Gbugbu, Ekko, Edogi, and Bongifu to commiserate with the victims of violent attacks that have left many families in mourning, others displaced, and several communities devastated.
In a state where official empathy has been grossly lacking, the PDP believes the Emir’s visit represents a glimmer of leadership, humanity, and duty—qualities starkly missing in the demeanor of the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
In a statement signed on Friday by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party described the Governor’s silence and failure to visit the affected areas as “shameful, irresponsible, and unbefitting of the position he occupies.”
> “While the Emir of Lafiagi, with no access to security votes or state apparatus, walked side-by-side with his people—offering prayers for the dead, hope to the bereaved, and comfort to the wounded—Governor Abdulrazaq, the constitutional Chief Security Officer of the state, has not deemed it necessary to issue a condolence message, visit the communities, or declare any form of state intervention,” Adewara said.
The statement also lamented that several parts of Kwara State—including Patigi, Edu, Kaiama, Baruten, Ifelodun, Isin, Ekiti, Oke Ero, Asa, and even Ilorin, the state capital—have become flashpoints of insecurity under Governor Abdulrazaq’s watch, with rural economies collapsing and fear gripping communities.
> “We now have a Governor who would rather hide in Abuja under the guise of chairing the Governors’ Forum, than respond to the cries of the very people who gave him their mandate,” the party said.
The PDP also listed what it called the “Governor’s failings” in response to the recent violence:
No visits to the attacked communities.
No public address on the tragedy.
No deployment of relief or security reinforcements.
No policy direction or strategy shared with the citizens.
> “We challenge Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to suspend his endless photo-ops and vanity projects and take responsibility for the human suffering occurring on his watch. Governance is not about celebratory posts or self-praise; it is about presence, leadership, and action—especially in times of tragedy,” Adewara stressed.
The party urged the people of Edu, Lafiagi Emirate, and other affected communities to “take stock of who stands by them in their time of grief and who goes missing when leadership is most needed.”
> “Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq must wake up to his responsibilities or forever be remembered as an absentee leader in a time of crisis,” the statement concluded.
